How to assign employees to jobs

How employees are linked to job types so they can track time against specific jobs.

In Begin, employee access to jobs is primarily managed at the job type level. When an employee is assigned to a job type, they can log time against any job within that type. For more granular control, visibility of individual jobs can also be restricted. This article explains how the assignment works.

How employee assignment works

  1. Go to Job Types in the left sidebar.

  2. Click on a job type to edit it.

  3. In the Bound employees section, assign or remove employees.

Once assigned, the employee can select any job within that type when registering time (on tablet, web, or mobile).

Note: New employees are automatically assigned to all active job types by default (controlled by the Auto-bind work types worker setting). This can be changed per employee in their worker settings.

What happens when an employee is assigned to a job type

  • Jobs of that type appear in the employee's selection dropdown when registering time.

  • Time entries can be linked to jobs within that type.

  • The jobs appear in reports filtered by employee.

Restricting access to individual jobs

If you need more granular control, you can also restrict which specific jobs within a job type an employee can see. This is useful when different employees handle different tasks within the same category.

Removing employees from a job type

Open the job type and remove the employee from the bound employees list. Historical time entries linked to jobs in that type are not affected — only future access is changed.
