Using the tablet terminal for time registration

How the tablet terminal works — triggered by physical device events, with job entry and close job forms.

The Begin tablet terminal is a web app that runs on a shared tablet device at a work site. It works together with a connected physical terminal (fingerprint reader, RFID reader, or PIN pad). This article explains the tablet workflow.

How the tablet works

The tablet does not have an employee name list. Instead, it is connected to a physical terminal device. When an employee identifies themselves on the connected device (via fingerprint, RFID card, or PIN), the tablet automatically shows the appropriate form.

Clock-in flow — Job Entry

When an employee identifies on the terminal and starts their day, the tablet shows the Job Entry form with these fields:

  • Object — the work object, project, or site (searchable dropdown)

  • Job Type — the category of work (if enabled)

  • Job — the specific job within that type (if applicable)

  • Units — quantity produced or completed (if unit tracking is enabled)

  • Comments — optional notes

Which fields are visible and required is configured by the admin in Settings → Tablet.

Starting a new job during a shift

If the employee identifies on the terminal again during their shift, the tablet opens a new job entry form. This closes the current job and starts a new one — working time continues without a gap.

Clock-out flow — Close Job

When ending their day, the employee identifies on the terminal and the tablet shows the Close Job form. They can update units and add comments before confirming.

Status dashboard

The tablet shows a connection status indicator for the terminal and internet connectivity.
