Face readers use facial recognition to identify employees when they clock in and out. Before an employee can use a face reader, their faceprint must be registered on the device. This article explains how.

How to register a faceprint

  1. The employee stands in front of the face reader device

  2. An admin or the employee initiates the registration process on the device

  3. The device captures several images of the employee's face from different angles

  4. The faceprint template is created and stored on the device

  5. The faceprint syncs to Begin and appears on the employee's Identifiers tab

Where to see registered faceprints

Go to Devices in the left sidebar, then navigate to the Identifiers page to see all faceprints (and other identifier types) across the company. Or open a specific employee's profile and click the Identifiers tab to see only their identifiers.

Faceprints are listed with the type label Faceprint.

Managing faceprints

Faceprints follow the same management rules as fingerprints — you can link them to specific devices, unlink them, or delete them from the Identifiers page. See the article "How to manage RFID cards and identifiers" for details on identifier management actions.

Tips for successful registration

  • Ensure good lighting during registration — avoid backlighting

  • The employee should face the camera directly at the correct height

  • Remove hats, sunglasses, or anything that significantly changes facial appearance
