How to set up a face reader

Configure a face recognition reader for contactless time tracking in Begin.

Face readers allow employees to clock in and out using facial recognition — no touching required. This article covers setup. This feature is available to Admins.

Step 1: Install the device

  1. Mount the face reader at a suitable height (eye level for most employees).

  2. Connect the device to your network.

  3. Ensure adequate lighting for reliable face recognition.

Step 2: Register the device in Begin

  1. Go to Devices in the left sidebar.

  2. Face readers self-register when connected to your network.

  3. Enter the device name and connection details.

  4. Click Save changes.

Step 3: Register employee face prints

  1. Go to the employee's profile and open the Identifiers tab.

  2. Faceprints are registered directly on the physical face reader device and sync automatically to Begin.

  3. Have the employee stand in front of the device and follow the on-screen instructions.

  4. The device captures the face print and links it to the employee.
